Cake was the final major project in my animation degree, in where I had to produce a short animated piece that would showcase the skills I had developped over the course of my study. For the project I knew I’d use Houdini and that I wanted something sleek and minimal.
I ultimately decided that I’d want to create a project that mixed a simple idea of a factory creating a cake but mix the process up in more of an abstract way. For instance eggs might rise out of a vat of strange liquid, or hammers could smash against a wall to cause sugar to fall off it.
The project was meant to be produced from the later part of 2019 and was due in early 2020. Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, this affected my studies and my ability to devote as much time on the project that I wished I could have. My class was given the option to hand in our work in an unfinished state (which would not affect the students grade) and this was an option that I chose.
This means that the project I produced is unfinished, but I still love the ideas I developped and because of this I plan on working on the project in my own time. This means I can produce the short in a way that I always wanted it to be.
This page will act as a “home” to the project as I work on it. My grand vision for the animation is very different to what I created, and being able to look back on it at the present time has allowed me to come up with better ideas.

The original.
This is my original animation. As mentioned before, this piece is uncomplete, and only features flour, eggs, milk, “love” and baking.
My original goal was to include more ingredients such as, butter, sugar, icing and also show more of the mixing and packaging process.
